Walls' Latin-American Mission

Training Pastors in the Context of the Church in Latin America.

,

Meet José Jiménez

When were you converted?

My wife met the Lord in a process of transition out of a church that preached the prosperity “gospel,” coming to see by God’s grace her sinfulness and her need to know Him. In my case, my visible process was when I entered a room in my house, knelt down and said: “God, if You truly exist, help me to follow You”, although it was an unbelieving statement, the Lord was already working in my weakness and calling me by His grace to know Him. After some time, we both came to know one another by leaving the congregations we were in. My wife became convinced that her previous church was preaching a false gospel, and in my case I became convinced of the Doctrines of Grace. We were able to get to know each other in the new congregation and enter into a relationship process in order to get married. Our engagement lasted two years until we were able to get married. In the new congregation where we were, we had to suffer a process of division due to doctrinal issues concerning salvation, which led us to make the decision to leave the church and find great encouragement and solace in the Reformed Baptist churches. Part of this decision was due to the the conviction that the Lord placed in my life by listening to the testimony of Pastor Fred Malone. The Lord has been very good to us by placing us in a church where they consider “the old paths.”

In all these processes that I have experienced, the desire to serve the Lord has increased, and although I see my weakness , I see how the Lord has stirred my heart for pastoral service knowing that this demands a pious life and much preparation.

How has your experience in the Pastor School been?

Since we moved from Guayaquil to Santo Domingo two years ago to go through this process, I had no idea how much I needed this preparation. The accompaniment of my professor Taylor Walls and my pastor Jorge Rodriguez have allowed my life to move towards the balance we need as believers and ministers of the Word. The lives of my professors not only speak at the time of teaching the classes, but they have also been examples in their way of living, encouraging my heart and my wife’s heart to continue striving in this process that we are living. The love, care and effort on their part have allowed me to mature and be encouraged to give our lives for the cause of the gospel.
In this process we are not only acquiring a solid doctrinal teaching, but also piety and love are things that accompany each time of instruction. If I could highlight something about each of my professors, I could say that: Taylor has instilled in us the effort for the deepening of the Word and my pastor Jorge in the balance that the minister must carry when giving ourselves to the work of the Lord.
Undoubtedly the time invested in this preparation has been a mine of blessings and learning that have formed me by the Grace of God. The doctrinal deposit that is being delivered to me affects all aspects of my life as a believer, husband, father and servant of the Lord’s work.

What are your plans for ministry after the program?

Considering that this process will end very soon, together with my wife we have prayed that the Lord will guide us to be able to serve Him in the place He desires. We see a great need throughout Ecuador, thus manifesting what our beloved Lord said “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few”. The missions of the local church and the impact it is having have opened many doors in which we could serve, but we desire to do so guided by the Lord.

What are ways that others can pray for you?

Finally there are some prayer requests that we would like to share with you:

  1. Spiritual strengthening from the Lord for my wife and me.
  2. Wisdom from the Lord for our marriage and raising our daughter Lia (1 year, 9 months) in the fear of the Lord.
  3. Provision of the Lord to have another baby.
  4. Guidance from the Lord as to the city in which we will serve. That he would give us clarity about where he is calling us to serve.
  5. Economic stability in this time of transition.
